The nearest airport is often not the obvious one
Flying into Jamnagar or Porbandar can save you a full day of driving to Dwarka. Keshod and Diu put you about an hour from Somnath. Road distances below are approximate.
Smaller airports such as Keshod, Diu, Porbandar and Kandla have only a few flights a week, and schedules change often. Dada checks the current schedule against fares from Ahmedabad and Rajkot, then books whichever works out cheaper overall.

रेलRail: the budget-friendly backbone
Key trains for this yatra
Trains are the cheapest way to cover Gujarat's long distances, and an overnight train saves a hotel night. These are the trains Dada uses most often.
Timings are as published in 2026. Indian Railways revises them, and the Sabarmati–Veraval Vande Bharat switched to the Botad–Junagadh route on 17 Aug 2026. Every train is re-checked before booking.
Road: Saurashtra coast
Dwarka to Somnath is about 235 km along the coast via Porbandar, roughly 5 hours. It is a beautiful drive with sea views, and Harsiddhi Mata and Madhavpur fit in on the way.
Road: Kutch
Ahmedabad to Bhuj is about 330 km on a good highway, 6–7 hours. Bhuj to Dhordo is 85 km. The Road to Heaven links the Rann with Dholavira.
Road: day trips
Ambaji is about 180 km from Ahmedabad (3.5 hours), and the Statue of Unity is about 90 km from Vadodara (2 hours). Both work as one-night trips.
